Tradition tells us that Ignatius was thrown to wild beasts in 107 AD, a martyrdom commemorated today. He has a special place in the heart of deacons.

‘Reverence the deacons as you would the command of God.’ (Ignatius)
May his courage and faith be ours!

We look back to Ignatius, a very early bishop of the church, because he’s so clear about the theology and ministry of deacons – something the church has lost these days, although we’re working on it. We find his writings inspiring and helpful.

Hello,
May I know why St Ignatius is particularly linked to Deacons? Is it a particular patronage such as you find with saints associated with fishing, travel, etc?
